Misreporting leakage and per capita consumption data has cost Welsh Water millions of pounds, including a £39.4 million customer redress package.

Ofwat has told Thames Water that it does not expect dividend distribution by a regulated water company to be rationalised “primarily by reference to an amount required to service an obligation of another group company.”

The start of the new financial year has heralded rebate payments to customers by Southern Water as part of the settlement reached with Ofwat last year following a large-scale investigation into the water company.

Southern Water has apologised for wastewater failings between 2010 and 2017 outlined by Ofwat this morning which saw the water regulator impose a record £126 million penalty on the utility - the water company said it was “deeply sorry for for the past failures.” 

A report prepared for Ofwat and Water UK has flagged up some concerns in the run-up to the 2019 Price Review about how the water companies report on the common Performance Commitments (PCs) established by the regulator.
