Wessex Water has completed a £13 million upgrade of Sutton Bingham water treatment works, which supplies water to Yeovil and surrounding areas.

The work was required to ensure the water treatment process continued to meet the guidelines set by the Drinking Water Inspectorate.

During the upgrade, customers were supplied with water from other sources in the area – but now they will gradually begin to reap the benefits of the newly refurbished water from Sutton Bingham.

Paul Knight, water supply manager at Wessex Water, said customers could notice a slight change in their water supply during the changeover period – the company will be monitoring the water quality throughout the switch in supply.

Wessex Water has undertaken major process extensions and extensive maintenance at the Sutton Bingham works with the aim of improving the performance of the works, first developed in the 1980s, in dealing with pesticides and taste and odour problems.  Construction began on site in the autumn of 2011.
