Southern Water is investing £6.7 million in two wastewater treatment works which will make a difference in improving water quality leaving the sites.

At East Boldre Wastewater Treatment Works in the New Forest the team have installed sand filters to add a final polish to the treated water, while at Handcross in West Sussex new pressurised multimedia tanks have been installed along with ferric dosing to improve water quality.

The water company is investing £3.7 million at East Boldre and £3 million at Handcross.

The work is being carried out by contractor GTb, a joint venture between Galliford Try Environment and Binnies UK Ltd.It is part of Southern Water’s wider £3 billion spending on improving its environmental performance.

“We’re pleased that we have got these projects finished in time for the New Year, all of the schemes will help our ongoing work to improve water quality, we’re looking forward to 2025 where we will look at further upgrades to sites across our region.”
