Chemicals giant BASF has been included in the CDP’s top “A” list ranking for sustainable water management for the first time.

The international non-profit organization CDP announced its latest results at the CDP Global Water Forum held in Morocco on November 15.

Of the 607 rated companies, just 24 received an “A” rating, including BASF. The CDP assessment for sustainable water management evaluates how transparently companies report on their water management activities and how they reduce risks such as water scarcity.

CDP also assesses the extent to which product developments can contribute to sustainable water management on behalf of the rated companies’ customers. BASF’s product portfolio is organized into five segments: Chemicals, Performance Products, Functional Materials & Solutions, Agricultural Solutions and Oil & Gas. The firm generated sales of more than €70 billion in 2015.

Efficient water use and the development of sustainable solutions for local water problems are important elements of BASF’s water stewardship strategy. The firm has set itself a global long-term goal of establishing sustainable water management at all sites in areas of water stress and at its  Verbund sites by 2025.
