Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water tops developer services league

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water has been rated as the best water and sewerage company in the industry in helping to facilitate development and growth across the communities it serves, according to independent water industry measures.

The latest results from Water UK reporting on levels of service, show that Welsh Water is still in first place in delivering both water and sewerage services compared to other water and sewerage companies in England and Wales.

Since July 2015, Water UK has been reporting on levels of service achieved by water and sewerage companies. The results are measured against a set of standards that developers and others can expect from water companies in relation to the provision of infrastructure for housing development.

Welsh Water currently contributes around £1 billion a year to the Welsh economy and the company has spent £215 million with around 800 Welsh suppliers and contractors over the past 12 months.

The work of the Developer Services team is vital in helping to promote economic development by installing over 36,000 meters of water mains, taking responsibility for 15,000 meters of new sewers and responding to over 4,500 planning applications every year. The team have helped to deliver some key projects across Wales, including:

  • Providing new water and sewer connections for Swansea University’s new £450 million Bay Campus
  • Playing a vital role in enabling construction of Newport’s new £90 million shopping centre, Friars Walk
  • Providing water and sewerage services to aid housing developments across Wales, including St. Modwen’s 1,060 acre development project at Coed Darcy, Swansea, which includes 4,000 new homes, community facilities, four schools and employment and leisure space

Welsh Water’s Head of Developer Services Ian Wyatt said:

“This second quarterly report shows that we have continued to improve our performance for customers. Our aim is to continue to maintain our high levels of service so that we can continue to support growth and development within our operating area. We are delighted to once again be at the top of the industry.”

In April 2015 Water UK published a set of service levels for water companies’ developer services. All water companies voluntarily agreed to these levels of service and are monitoring their performance against them.

Companies’ performance against the levels of service is reported quarterly. Water UK’s July 2015 publication is the first of these monitoring reports.
