Scottish Water has had to supply bottled water to the inhabitants of an island in Scotland after problems with the sub-sea pipeline which supplies them with fresh water.

The water company has been working to restore water supplies to the island of Graemsay following a suspected issue with the sub-sea pipeline that supplies the island from North Hoy.

Resources have been mobilised to start investigation work to determine what repairs are necessary.

Bottled water was delivered to the island yesterday and further water supplies are being transported via boat to replenish the tank on the island as soon as possible.

Once in place, this will restore supplies to customers while repairs are carried out. Scottish Water has issued advice regarding the temporary water supply which must be boiled for a number of everyday activities, including drinking, cleaning teeth, preparing babies feeds, disinfecting feeding equipment and preparing food including ice cubes and salads.
