Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water has won its appeal against Swansea Council’s decision refusing planning permission for the firm to erect a wind turbine at its Swansea Bay wastewater treatment works.

 Mike Pedley, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s Head of Energy said:

 “We are delighted that we have now been granted permission to erect a wind turbine at our wastewater treatment works on Fabian Way. 

 “We believe that our green energy scheme is right for the area and in designing the project we worked hard to ensure that the location and size of the turbine complied with the local authority’s own planning guidelines on turbine developments. 

 “We look forward to starting the project which we anticipate we will commence in late 2015. We then anticipate that the turbine will be up and operating during 2016. We will of course keep local people informed of developments with the project.

 “The turbine will form part of our ongoing reduction in our carbon footprint. Furthermore, the project will also benefit customers by reducing our overall operating costs so that we can keep bills low and as affordable as possible.”
