SBWWi appoints new Chief Executive Officer

The Society of British Water & Wastewater Industries has announced the appointment of Paul Horton to the newly created role of Chief Executive Officer following the retirement of SBWWI’s Executive Director Carol Hickman.

With a wealth of experience in the water and environment sector, Paul Horton has been involved with the water sector since the late 1980s. His working career has covered development of pollution indices, bonds and equity market research and spells in the trade association sector, as Environment Policy Adviser for the Confederation of British Industry and as International Director at British Water.

His work has included a number of UK Government initiatives, including sectoral trade visits to some 50 countries, development of UK Government Water Sector Strategy and more recently on the Global Water Security report for the then UK Government chief scientist, Sir John Beddington.

Society Chairman Martyn Hopkinson views his appointment as further strengthening the SBWWi’s position as the leading voice for the supply chain in the UK water industry and beyond.

Currently Director of Membership & Development at CIWEM, Paul Horton will be taking up his post on December 2nd.

His appointment coincides with the SBWWi’s move to new offices in Kenilworth early in January 2015. The Society now represents over a hundred members which employ c.30000 staff and supply £3.2bn of products and services to the UK water and wastewater sectors annually.
