Scott Wilson Group PLC, the multi-disciplinary international design and engineering consultancy for the built and natural environments, are to make further staff cuts according to the Interim Management Statement released this morning for the period from 12 December 2008 to date.

Despite fears that the economic downturn is adversely affecting the current AMP4 spending programme, water companies have denied making cuts in capital expenditure.

Thames Water has replied to comments received during its recent public consultation on its draft Water Resources Management Plan.

Balfour Beatty publish strong results

Balfour Beatty has published its preliminary results for the year ended 31 December 2008.  The company said that the results showed strong progress, demonstrating the resilience of its financial model.

Job losses announced at Thames Water

Thames  Water  Utilities  Limited, the UK's largest  water and sewerage company, today announced  it was bringing forward a reduction in employee numbers of up to 300 as part of a restructuring programme, and in response to the current economic downturn.

Thames Water has announced today that four bidders are in the running to construct the Lee Tunnel - the first of two major infrastructure projects that make up Thames Water's proposed London Tideway Tunnels.

Construction and maintenance companies who work in or near watercourses are being reminded today  that pollution incidents are avoidable by careful planning. The call comes as new pollution prevention guidelines are published by the Environment Agency.

Defra has published its annual guide to the UK's key sustainable development indicators which provides a statistical overview of the country's progress in tackling key economic, social and environmental issues.

EU Commission takes legal action against UK

The European Commission is taking legal action against the United Kingdom for not fully complying with European Court of Justice judgments in two separate cases.

Details of a three-part survival pack - the IAM Toolkit - designed to help the owners of major public and private-sector assets cope with the double onslaught of unprecedented economic and environmental risks were announced in London on Tuesday, 25th November.
